This story begins with the arrival of Serena van der Woodsen to her home town of Upper East Side, where some time ago she disappeared from the city with a goal only known by her family. Her arrival at the Grand Central enough to attract the attention of the Gossip Girl who then immediately spread the news on the page belonging to Gossip Girl that can be accessed by everyone, especially teenagers in the area.
The news of the return of Serena was rapidly widespread, until it was accepted by Blair Waldorf, Serena's school-companion, apparently unhappy with the return of Serena to the Upper East Side.
Blair who at that time was holding a party at her residence, trying to spend her personal time with her lover called Nate Archibald. But apparently Serena came to Blair's residence to meet with her mother who was also attending the event. The arrival of Serena is welcomed by the host and by her mother, but not by Blair. With an awkward Blair, and also Nate, seemed surprised by the sudden arrival of Serena.
After meeting with her mother at the Blair party, Serena meet her litle brother, Eric, who lay sick. Eric disease is deliberately hidden by the mother from outsiders, because apparently Eric never tried to commit suicide.
This story puts some of the main characters of his teenager in the same school environment. The next morning, Serena met with Blair in a very uncomfortable situation at school. Serena knows that Blair will have a party, but Blair did not invite Serena as her best friend. The awkwardness makes Serena feel the need to talk with Blair, then Serena try to invite Blair talk from heart to heart to try to melt freezing between them. And it was from this conversation that the reason for Blair was cold to Serena, because the Serena she considered a close friend suddenly disappeared by not telling her first that she would stay in the dormitory. The talk between Blair and Serena is apparently quite successful in re-warming the friendship between them.
But then the situation between Serena and Blair's friendship back worse when Nate confessed to Blair that he and Serena ever once making out behind Blair. And it makes Blair so upset that she does not want to meet or even talk to Serena again.
On the other hand, Serena who had intended to stay away from Nate, had a date with a stranger. Dan humphrey, a male student who had attended the same place with Serena, through a happy coincidence, managed to bring her to a concert of music, in which a father and as one member of the band. But at the end of the show, Dan apparently gets an emergency call from his sister, Jenny, who is being plagued by Chuck, at a party held by Blair. The arrival Dan and serena to rescue Jenny from Chuck at the party again attracted attention, especially for Blair, Chuck, and Nate.
Behind the dating story between Dan and serena, revealed the story that it turns out that Lily and Rufus--Dan's father-- once had a romantic past together before they married their spouses.
